Tragedy of lifeIt was a sunny day but sometimes clouds curtained the sun then blew away, warm air was blowing when she stepped out of her car with sunglasses on and white coat, it was her first day at the hospital as a house officer. She had been a brilliant student throughout her Medicine studies.
She ,with pink floral top and blue jeans with pink heals looking extremely pretty, stepped into the hospital. At the counter a nurse was sitting. With high hopes, enthusiastically moved to the counter. With loud voice she greeted and said, “hi, i am doctor ayesha i am a new house officer can you tell me the medicine ward where is it?”.The nurse guided her to the medicine ward. This hospital was new for her because she had studied MBBS in other city where she was in hostel now in her own town she was doing the work.
She went to a doctor in the medicine ward, introduced her. On interrogation she came to know that the other doctor was doctor Abid and he was working as a senior professor at the hospital. He told her to stay with him he will be going to tell her all about the hospital and staff and the patients there in the ward and Out patient department.
She was very happy joining all this and doing work for patients she had not yet treated any patient as she was only observing doctor Abid. One week after her joining she was sitting in the emergency when a patient with a serious head injury was brought to the hospital. It was her first emergency ,dr abid was there too they immediately shifted him to hospital bed. In this one week work, she observed dr abid to be a very harsh, stubborn, aggressive, negligent and proud person in-spite of his qualification he was very poor at encouraging and treating the patient with care. The patient was crying with extremely pain and dr abid was filling a pain killer in the injection. She was standing on the side observing. In medical school , it is usually taught to check the injection whether it is tight enough or not to avoid any mishaps. She was also observing him because she had seen him injecting for the first time, before only nursing staff used to do that. He passed it septically no wiping ,no check for tighting the injection.
The needle penetrated the skin and he injected the drug and when he pull it out ALAS! it was a horrifying moment the injection came out without the needle. She was terrified so was dr abid. She was shaking and all sweaty and the patient with a scream after 2 minutes died.....
Due to the doctor negligence in such a minor detail the needle was separated from the injection and got caught to the heart and the patient died of foreign body embolism. Dr abid being so stubborn and proud person told the attendants that he died because of excessive bleeding. Dr ayesha was so shocked at the incidence that she couldn’t utter a word. For several days she was under shock and decided to not to inject an injection ever in her life.
Decisions are not made by humans but by nature. One day she was sitting in the ward when emergency alert was given all the doctors were called to the emergency due to a severe fire alert. About 41 burnt people were brought to emergency. Every where there was a terror and terrible cries and burnt people crying so much that it must have shaken the sky. She was also giving first aid to all patients. She came to a child who was crying like a wee baby. Her heart was shattered into pieces when she saw his legs and arms burnt and pus was leaking from it and his whole face was wet with tears. He was a 12 years old boy and was calling for a pain relieving medicine. She called the nurse to give him a pain killing injection but the nurse said that she was treating other patients she asked her to do that. Ayesha was not capable of doing she promised herself to not to inject a syringe ever but the child was begging for a pain killer.
She tried to wait for nurses and other doctor but her broken heart did not dare to pick up a syringe. Then she was broken up into tears when the child said “please relieve my pain or else i will die i had to go back to meet my mother she is waiting for me at home”. She assembled her self by her mom’s saying that A person’s enemy is his own fear if he tries to fight that fear he will definitely take control over that.
She picked up a syringe filled it with pain killer with trembling hands and pounding heart. She was shaking so much and her forehead was sweaty she injected the injection and when she pulled it out the needle was intact. It was a big day of her life and she was so happy and joyful. That day she learnt that life is not about being afraid of your fears and tragedies that happened but life is all about crushing those fears under your feet and STEP AHEAD to become a successful person in life and face such type of horrible tragedies with courage and compassion for your own happiness and peace( zartash jan)
